Lobuche Peak Expedition – Touch the Sky
Lobuche Peak (6,119 meters / 20,075 feet), also known as Lobuche, is a well-known trekking peak in the Everest region. This Nepalese Mountain lies close to the Khumbu Glacier and comprises two main peaks: Lobuche East and Lobuche West. Lobuche Peak is situated just above the Lobuche village. The views from Lobuche Peak are awe-inspiring, offering glimpses into the heart of the Himalayas, including Lhotse (8,516 meters / 27,940 feet), Nuptse (7,861 meters / 25,791 feet), Pumori (7,161 meters / 23,494 feet), Ama Dablam (6,812 meters / 22,349 feet), Makalu (8,485 meters / 27,838 feet), Cholatse (6,440 meters / 21,129 feet), Thamserku (6,608 meters / 21,680 feet), Kangtenga (6,782 meters / 22,251 feet), and many more over 6,500 meters, as well as the best views of the Khumbu valley.
Lobuche Peak is an attractive summit, offering various existing routes and wide scope for new lines. Clearly visible from near Pheriche, the dark triangle of its rocky east face rises above the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier to an icy skyline. Lobuche Peak Climbing is a trip for adventurous people with experience on ice and snow, and skills in using ice axes, crampons, and fixing ropes. Located in the Khumbu Himal and south of Mt. Everest, Lobuche Peak is one of Nepal’s popular trekking peaks. Its altitude is recognized by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), and the climbing grade is classified as PD according to the French / Swiss Alpine System, widely used worldwide.
Starting from Lukla, the trek passes through many traditional Sherpa villages and farm country, with amazing scenery along the way offering tremendous mountain views of Kumsum Kanguru, Kwangde, Thamserku, and other adjoining peaks around the Khumbu Himal. The trek reaches the famous Sherpa capital at Namche Bazaar, which offers modern facilities including stores, shops, cyber cafes, bakeries, banks, post offices, and many fine lodges, resorts, and restaurants. A rest day here allows for proper acclimatization and short hikes around this picturesque country.
After Namche, the trek continues to the famous and scenic Tengboche Monastery, located on a ridge encircled with high mountains, including Mt. Everest and the stunning Mt. Ama Dablam. From this point onwards, the terrain becomes windswept, dry, and arid, leaving the woodlands and vegetation behind.
Before reaching the main destination of Lobuche Peak and Everest Base Camp, proper acclimatization is maintained to ensure the physical condition of the group by trekking towards Everest Base Camp. This provides more views of the surrounding high peaks of the Khumbu area and includes a climb to the top of Kala Patthar for breathtaking mountain panoramas, including Mt. Everest. The journey of Lobuche Peak Climbing then leads towards the beautiful Lobuche valley and the base of Lobuche Peak, with acclimatization days before the climb to the summit of Lobuche Peak.
Before the climb, a proper rest day and preparations are made, with expert guides scouting the area of the climbing route to make it more accessible and safer for the groups. The big day and highlight of the trip involve reaching the top of Lobuche Peak at 6,119 meters, with an overwhelming panorama of mountains surrounding the summit. A total of 8-10 hours of effort is required to reach the Lobuche East summit on the summit day and return to base camp. After a successful climb to the summit of Lobuche Peak, the journey heads back to Lukla.
Lobuche peak packages include accommodations during the trek, with climbers staying at lodges and teahouses that provide basic but comfortable accommodation. At higher altitudes and during the climbing sections, climbers stay in tents.
Climbing Lobuche offers an excellent introduction to the world of Himalayan mountaineering and is one of the most popular mountain peaks in Nepal, with less technical climbing compared to other peaks in the Everest region.
