Throung Peak is the shortest possibility to gain a 6000 m-peak while doing the famous trekking around Annapurna. The highest point of this Trekking is Thorong La (pass), 5416 m. From this pass, it is the first mountain to the south.
There are no detailed maps available about this area of Nepal (correct me if I’m wrong). The maps you can buy contain south of the pass only a mountain called Khatung Kang (6488 m). But this is not the mountain you can see and climb from Thorong La, but the one behind it. Because of that these mountains often are mixed up. At least in Germany, the mountain is called Thorong Ri.
Thorong peak (6,144 m) rise is one of the most satisfying and technically tough peaks rises within the Annapurna region of Nepal. Thorong peak maybe a stunning snow peak standing to the south of the Thorung La in the Annapurna region. This peak rise is a wonderful combination of the classic Annapurna spherical trek passing through the high pass of Thorong La Pass and satisfying Thorong peak rise. Thorung La peak rise was opened recently for the adventurers when the Nepal government derestricted the trek to Manang Valley.
Thorong Peak standing at 6100 meters is the nice snow mountain on the left, simply to the south of the Thorung La, seen simply past the Gya La (3970m) between Tetang and Muktinath. The path from Tetang descends from the Gya La (3970m) and eventually joins the most path from Manang to Ranipauwa. Muktinath is visible in the lower right. This mountain is the shortest risk to achieve a 6000 m-peak whereas doing the illustrious trekking around Annapurna. the best purpose of this Trekking is Thorong La (pass), 5416 m. From this pass, it’s the primary mountain to the south.
